Week 6

Six weeks later, I've found myself more pleased (and swamped) than ever. The internship is going well, if busy, and I got really good reviews from my managers. I've also had much more fulfilling relationships than I expected, and much more fun with the amazing people here. What sucks most is how precious little time I have these days. I wish that we had an extra day per week >_<.

These good times are not without cost, as I've lost more sleep over the past month or so than I ever did at school. But I must make use of what little time I have here, while I have it. Sleep is a rather secondary concern.

I haven't heard back from the legal department about our little patent application yet, which has me a little worried. But I trust everything will be just fine. My project is progressing along nicely, though I'll be cramming for a demo on Wednesday in the next couple of days. I hope I'll be able to make it fine...

Pressure

I received pretty awesome review comments (still have to have the 1 on 1 on 1 with my manager and skip-level manager though), but they are kinda speculative in nature...So what it really says is that they have great expectations of me, and everything depends on how well I can implement my project. But it's at the same time motivating to see how well they think of me. Personally I feel woefully unskilled compared to many of my peers (especially my two roommates).

I really need to catch up on sleep...doesn't help to stay up till past 1 on weekdays...

The Fifth Week

Another week flew by. I suppose that's helped by the fact that Friday was Independence Day. Nevertheless, pressure at work is coming to a peak, with midpoint reviews in just a few days. I need to actually spec the code I've been writing and have that reviewed properly. I'm a little afraid since my mentor hasn't given much of an indication toward a good or bad review.

While I'm not exactly homesick, I do miss being able to see many of my friends at home. It also sucks that I get home pretty late most days and miss most people on IM due to the 3 hour difference.

Today was rather a slow day compared to the rest of the month or so I've spent here. I suppose it's good to rest once in a while. Except I think I'm coming down with a bug...I guess it's time to start chugging the 100% Vitamin C juices.

The fourth week

Whew! Another week just flew by. Most of this week was spent on fleshing out the patent idea. Apparently I'll even get some bonus cash just for filing the application! I'm certainly excited at the prospect (who wouldn't want a nice patent under their name?!). Works been getting busier and busier, and my mentor has been trying to keep me later and later. Oh and I've been managing to get to work earlier! (8:30ish)
